Join Willamette Riverkeeper and our friends at Keizer Business Alliance for an introduction to canoeing safely on the river while enjoying the health benefits of getting outside.
After an on-land safety discussion and canoe stroke practice, participants will enjoy a short scenic paddle trip from downtown Salem to Keizer Rapids Park while learning more about the river and our combined efforts to improve water quality and habitat.
WHEN: Tuesday, July 12 from 10:30am - 2:00pm. Arrive 10 - 15 minutes early to allow time for check in and settting up your boat.
WHERE: Meet us at Wallace Marine Park (200 Glenn Creek Rd, Salem, OR 97304) in Salem. When you arrive at Wallace Marine Park, go to the right towards the boat ramp. DO NOT follow directions to the softball fields. Free parking is available. We will be paddling to Keizer Rapids Park (1900 Chemawa Rd N, Keizer, OR 97303)
Wallace Marine Park is close to bus routes 16, 17, 26 and 27.
DETAILS: Pack along water, a lunch, sunscreen, sunglasses, weather appropriate wear. Plan to be on the river for about 2 hours. You also might want to pack a change of clothes in case you get wet (the water is still cold). If you are bringing your own boat, don't forget your PFD!
Don't have your own boat? Willamette Riverkeeper has a limited supply of tandem canoes available at no charge. Each canoe comes with 2 paddles and 2 PFDs with whistles. These must be reseved in advance.
Willamette Riverkeeper will have some extra snacks and drinks on hand.
Restrooms will be available at the beginning and end of this trip.
This event is limited to those 18+, or 14+ with a parent or guardian.
SHUTTLE: We will run a shuttle service for this trip! Meet us at Wallace Marine Park at 10:15am to check in. The trip ends at Keizer Rapids Park and all participants will receive a free ride back to their cars at Wallace Marine Park. Participants can expect to be back to their cars at 2pm.
COVID: We will be following local and state guidelines for this event. Masks are encouraged while riding in the van at the end of the trip and will be provided if you do not have your own.
