Join Oregon State Parks and Willamette Riverkeeper for a special restoration tour and floodplain cleanup at Half Moon Bend, a beautiful Willamette Water Trail site just outside of the Corvallis area. Lunch and "doorprizes" included for all participants!
Participants will meet at 9AM in the back parking area of Home Depot, located at 1780 NE Four Acre Place, Corvallis, 97433. We will carpool from there using a Riverkeeper van, accessing Half Moon Bend by land through a private easement. We’ll move through a restoration area, and focus on removing trash abandoned above and below the beach, in the floodplain.
Willamette Riverkeeper and OPRD will provide tools, water, lunch and refreshments – please bring a water bottle, appropriate clothing layers, and wear sturdy shoes. All participants will receive an opportunity to win a raffle item as part of their participation in this event.
More about Half Moon Bend:
Half Moon Bend is a 115 acre parcel of Willamette River Greenway property managed by Oregon State Parks. This place is an official Water Trail site, and offers a great location for river camping and wildlife viewing because of its relatively peaceful setting. What really makes this property special is the restoration demonstration project tucked in the forested areas beyond river’s edge. With the cooperation of OSU Forestry and Natural Resource Extension, Oregon State Parks, Benton Count SWCD, and 2 local farmers, an old farm field was transformed into a wildlife sanctuary for local deer and bird populations. This was a unique project that combined the resources of farming practices and experimental forestry techniques. As you help clean its beaches, take some time to admire the returning Osprey pair across the river or just enjoy volunteering in a quiet little oasis.
