WHAT: Join Willamette Riverkeeper for a cleanup along the Holgate Channel. We last cleaned up this site on Octoberr 30, 2021 and there is more work to be done prior to the river rising! In just a couple of weeks, we can expect this site to be completely submerged under water making it especially important to remove this trash now.
WHEN & WHERE: Friday, November 19 from 9am - 1pm. We will gather at the gravel lot next to the Hawthorne Dock on the east side of the river. There is an adjacent paved lot just off of Water Ave, and south of Clay St. You can enter 1515 SE Water Ave. Portland, OR 97214 into your map for the closest location. *We will be launching and returning to the same site.
Our cleanup will take place on land in the Holgate Channel, located on the east side of the river. The cleanup portion will be entirely on land.
DETAILS: This is a BYO-boat event. Pack along water, weather appropriate gear (think rain!), a face mask to be worn during check in and when working in close proximity to others, PFD, a change of clothes (should you take an unintended swim), work gloves if you have them and sturdy close toed shoes. Willamette Riverkeeper will provide trash bags, non-latex gloves and trash pickers.
*Not interested in boating, but still want to participate? We need 1-2 volunteers to help us unload trash from a power boat at Willamette Park. This would be every 30 minutes from 10am - 1pm.
