RIVER DISCOVERY
Willamette Riverkeeper organizes opportunities throughout the year to “meet” your river. WR enables people of all experience levels and backgrounds to take part, and seeks to make the barrier to entry very low. We typically offer our canoes, safety gear and guidance free of charge. Our staff and lead volunteers have decades of experience taking literally thousands of people out along the river, and we have developed a very nice “stable” of high quality canoes.
We have found that connecting people to the river by facilitating on-the-water experiences is an effective tool for educating, creating opportunities for new experiences, promoting stewardship, and developing community interest in our work. Whether participants paddle into a river alcove where native Wapato is emerging along the water's edge, or they see the vast alterations to natural habitat encountered in the river’s Superfund site, we hope to offer a unique experience with the Willamette River through these free community events.
Our paddle trips generally take place from May through October.
